Mexican Teams
Founded on August 21, 1923, and sponsored by the Compañía de Luz (Electric Company), the so-called “Electricians” have always incorporated players of skill and courage who have achieved extraordinary feats for the club and for Mexico. The Necaxa of legends, known as the “Once Hermanos” (Eleven Brothers), were League Champion in 1933, 1935, 1937, and 1938. They formed the nucleus of the National Team that was crowned in the Centroamericanos of 1935 and 1938. In the 20 years between 1950 and 1970, Necaxa would win two Cup Tournaments and one Tournament of Champions. In the 1994-95 campaign, they gained first place in the first round. With Championships in the CONCACAF Recopa, Cup of Mexico, and with the League Championship, they would consequently reach their fourth goal of the year – the most important – Champion of Champions or “Campeonisimo”, during the 1995-96 season. To that point they were being hailed as the “Team of the Decade." However, some doubted this, until the winter of 1998, in which against all predictions, Necaxa defeated the Chivas of Guadalajara 2:1 for the championship. In January of 2000, Necaxa surprised everyone by finishing third in the aptly-named “Mundial de Clubes” (World Cup of Clubs), getting by giants Manchester United and Real Madrid. In 2003 Necaxa changed their headquarters to Aguascalientes and their home field to Victoria Stadium.
